Have you been following along, or did you miss Part 1 and Part 2 of this project? If you haven't been following along, please check them out so you can get the whole story behind the Suzie Project.

I couldn't wait any longer to share this last and final Part of the first series in my personal project. I would like to thank Renee and Regional Animal Shelter for the opportunity to share their story, it has been an amazing experience for me!

There will be others featured in this personal journey of mine, but for now, let's get back to Suzie's amazing story!

Our next visit with Suzie was to check her progress and see how she was doing. I was amazed at the transformation from our first visit with her in Part 1 of this series. Her steps were lighter, her eyes were brighter, there were smiles on her face, jumping, playing. And not just that, her coat had come back, she had gained weight back and she looked so healthy! She was a completely different dog.

I don't really even need to tell you, the photos say it all! Check her out...

After a few minutes of play time, Renee came into the yard, and Suzie could barely contain her excitement. This is the woman who saved her and who has been by her side through this amazing journey. Renee and Suzie talked in their own way for quite a while - Suzie was barking and whining with excitement and there were lots of kisses and hugs! These two have quite the bond; it was really amazing to see.happy rescue dog with shelter volunteer

And then of course, it was play time!photo of dog playing with rescuer

Renee also had some great news to share with us all. Suzie had been adopted! The family taking her in was perfect, she said. And it had to be, in order for Renee to let Suzie go! They came to visit Suzie almost every day until the adoption day came - how sweet! As you can tell, Suzie is excited about what is to come. :)photo of dog smiling because of rescue

Our next visit to Regional Animal Shelter was our last part of the journey with Suzie. She was going to her forever family! Starting her a new life! We were so thrilled to be able to document this moment. And as you can see, so was Suzie. :)

Suzie was given a little care package from her friends at Harvey's Home, Garden & Pet Center. Lucky girl!photo of shelter dog looking at toys

I think she's happy, don't you? :)photo of shelter dog happy to be adopted

And now for the hardest part of this wonderful day; saying goodbye. There wasn't a single dry eye in the house when Renee said her goodbyes to Suzie. Even looking at these images now, they bring tears to my eyes. It was a bittersweet moment, and so touching.

I know this was not the first emotional farewell for Renee, nor will it be her last. Rich of Regional put it best with this statement: "A beautiful story that is played out over and over again by Renee. She treats every single dog that comes to the sheler as her own personal dog."emotional photo of animal rescuer crying

And then it was time to send Suzie on her way. She looked happy, and ready to go!

Bye Suzie, we love you!!jessica painter photography

I was given an update on Suzie just this week. She is doing very well and settling in nicely. We couldn't be happier for her!
A special thanks goes out to Renee and her team at Regional Animal Shelter. If it wasn't for all of you, Suzie's success story wouldn't be possible!
Renee puts it best: "We are all a team. And it takes a great team to do what we do."

Thank you so much for following along on this project. It has been a learning experience for me, and I hope also for you! We plan to feature other dogs and rescues along the way in this project, so keep an eye out for other features!
