Some sessions feel a little different before I pick up my camera.
Fifteen years ago, I had the privilege of photographing Amy and Robert's wedding. This year, they reached out again, this time to celebrate another chapter of their story with portraits for their 15th wedding anniversary.
There is something incredibly special about being invited back into a couple's life so many years after their wedding day. When I photograph a wedding, I know those images will become part of a family's history, but getting to see that story continue years later is something I never take for granted.
For their anniversary session, we spent the evening in Saratoga Springs, wandering around the Hall of Springs and the beautiful grounds of Saratoga Spa State Park. It gave us the perfect mix of elegant architecture, quiet pathways, and the natural beauty that makes this part of Saratoga such a timeless place for portraits.
But my favorite part wasn't the location.
It was Amy and Robert.
Fifteen years of marriage changes a relationship in all of the wonderful ways that photographs can't quite explain. There is history there. Familiarity. Laughter. A comfort with one another that can't be posed or manufactured.
And being able to photograph that after having documented the beginning of their marriage felt incredibly meaningful.
Amy had also shared something with me that I hadn't forgotten: she remembered feeling comfortable in front of my camera on her wedding day all those years ago. Having the opportunity to create that experience for her again meant so much to me.
Because beautiful portraits aren't really about knowing how to pose or feeling perfectly confident when you arrive. They're about feeling comfortable enough to be yourself with the person you love.
Amy and Robert, thank you for trusting me with your memories once again.
Here's to fifteen years of marriage, everything that brought you here and all the chapters still ahead. ❤️
